GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Two sisters from JH Rose Highschool, Saanvi and Anya Kumar are changing what it means to go to summer camp.
The Kumar sisters started STEAM RISE, a non-profit focused on STEM education that provides mentorship, hands-on learning experiences, and opportunities to develop research and leadership skills.
“Students really enjoy STEM. Giving them the opportunity to explore these fields…allows to know early on and get an early exposure to things,” Saanvi Kumar, Co-Creator, said.
During the five-day experience, campers got the opportunity to create inventions, analyze advertisements, and they even presented their studies to parents and campmates at the end of the program.
According to Anya Kumar, Co-Creator, the camp is all about exposure. “We wanted to make it accessible to our local community…and where it has become, we’re just really happy.”
